    • Flex

The launch today of Macromedia Flex has been rather a slap in the face for loyal ColdFusion developers. This exciting new product is designed to facilitate rich internet applications by allowing developers to create Flash apps using an XML-based tag markup, rather than the counter-intuitive (to developers) movie/stage paradigm of Flash Studio.

Naturally, the ColdFusion crowd have been waiting with bated breath. Unfortunately, the pricing regime is prohibitive for most applications with a server license costing USD12000 and shared hosting specifically forbidden by the licence terms.

There's a lot of miffed developers around the world tonight. Macromedia took our new toy away. :-( Sad

This is one of the very few degree confluences left in New Zealand, according to the Degree Confluence Project.

This point is near Reefton on the L30 topographic map. It is located in the headwaters of Dunphy Creek just beneath Bourkes Rock on the Brunner Range. An easy looking spur leads up from Landing Creek Road. What are we all waiting for? (OK I'm waiting for a GPS unit.) Funnily, Grace and I were just a few kilometres from this point when we walked up Larry's Creek last November.

The goal of the DCP is to visit every land-based intersection of latitude and longitude degree lines on earth. This is an interesting way of creating a sampling of what the world really looks like, rather than the highly selective tourist photos.
